How to layout a children's book

And today, if you are a new children 's  book author , you have many more opportunities than 10 years ago . Perhaps you have thought that your only alternative, when you see that the large well-known publishers are not willing to bet on your book, is self-publishing. But we consider that self-publishing is not a possibility to make a children's project viable for very obvious reasons. A children's work must be corrected and adapted depending on the audience to which it is directed; it is very important to take into account the age of the reader to whom you want to direct your work. It is very important to be well advised by a team of professionals who already have experience in publishing children's works. Self-publishing won't give you this. Bet, today, on a new author who has a very interesting project. But the fact that he is still an unknown author to the demanding reading public is a very risky option for any publisher. In 2012-2013, our website had a sign in the contact area that stated very explicitly: “please do not send manuscripts, we have closed our selection.

But then we did not have the budget to publish more than 2 or 3% of the proposals that came to us. And even more so, we only had the possibility of publishing the works that came to us from other authors that we already knew and that we assumed could have a secure commercial trajectory. I still remember that first author of an amazing story who told us: “I would be willing to buy some books that I could perfectly sell in my immediate environment, with this I would assure you that, at least, in the event that the publication of the book was a disaster, it would have sold at least 100 copies, in fact, I would buy them anyway, because I am an author who likes to promote his book and who better than me to be its ambassador to an unknown public." Then I understood that I could take the risk of publishing his work.



Publish risking only half of the investment, since the other half would be covered by the purchase made by the unknown author. But, the truth is that it was a super interesting work and I thought that, if he promoted it, it could begin to be known. Little by little, thanks to the joint work of both, it had enough qualities to begin to be sold in bookstores by anonymous buyers. A “magic formula” Thanks to this author, he knows perfectly well who he is (to whom I am eternally grateful) and some others who saw behind it, we devised a “magic formula” . A formula by which we could promote, together, many projects that years ago were left, graphically, stored in the drawers of our publishing house, waiting for one day we would have the budget to publish them. What better way to do our part in the enthusiasm of so many new authors who have no place in other publishers? We are certain, from the experience of these years, that the quality works of unknown authors who trust in them love to promote them and go to presentations and events, to story-telling and activities.
